The unions back all kinds of half assed building projects. They love the casino MOU was signed saying they would use union labor so... the union is always looking at making a quick buck off the area instead of the long term value that these projects provide.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (Oct. 26, 2021) – The Cedar Rapids Development Group (CRDG) has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Cedar Rapids/Iowa City Building and Construction Trades Council outlining the intention to enter a project labor agreement once plans are developed for a local casino. The memorandum of understanding is contingent upon a successful gaming referendum – Public Measure G – on Tuesday, Nov. 2.

So the members of the union get above market pay when the project is going then they go on unemployment till the next taxpayer scam pops up. 

What gets built and who pays for it is a big deal in CR some have to do things market rate and we call those people SUCKERS :)  if you are smart and in the in-group in cedar rapids don't put all your money into your pet project, program etc let the tax payers flip the bill.
